The Iowa Senate wrapped up its 2023 work on Thursday. Republican Senate President Amy Sinclair called the session “historic.”
“While it is beginning to feel like we often heard the word ‘historic’ when talking about the accomplishments of the Iowa Legislature, the 2023 session has truly been historic in seeing some of my own priorities accomplished,” Sinclair said. “We have passed policy I never believed I would see cross the finish line when I was first elected.”
Sinclair highlighted parental choice in education as well as the parental bill of rights.
“Parents would be able to trust that their school administrators and educators will always do the right thing for their children,” Sinclair said. “Transparency will strengthen that trust.”
She also highlighted the property tax reform and transparency bill. Other accomplishments specifically mentioned include:
*preventing fraud in the welfare systems
*preventing sexually explicit materials from being available to kids in schools
*ensuring Iowa maintains a balanced budget
*creating more access to healthcare solutions in rural Iowa
“To top it all off, Iowa has been named one of the top ten overall best states by US News and World Report,” Sinclair said. “So while we have heard the word ‘historic’ used before, the word accurately describes the positive change Iowa has seen and will continue to see under the Republican trifecta.”
