I recently read a news story about a Democrat-funded secret group caught trying to manipulate voters in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District. This group manipulated a local Republican, Joe Wiederien, into running against Congressman Zach Nunn as an Independent. If successful, the candidate would have potentially siphoned votes from Nunn. An NPR article noted that funding for this group has been traced back to the Democratic Party. As a voter in this district, I must stress how outraged I am about their attempt to infiltrate this race and deceive Iowa voters.

An AP article described Mr. Wiederien as: “A fervent supporter of former President Donald Trump, Wiederien was registered as a Republican until months earlier. A debilitating stroke had left him unable to drive. He had never run for office. For a time, he couldn’t vote because of a felony conviction.” This same group has recruited retired and/or disabled Trump-supporting candidates to run against Republicans in Nebraska, Montana, Virginia, and Minnesota.

This group has proven they will stop at nothing to elect their former co-worker and paid political activist, Lanon Baccam.Their disastrous record provides no foundation for a successful campaign, so they have resorted to dirty tricks and manipulation to scheme their way to victory. NPR adds the following concerning the candidate who was tricked into running against Nunn, “Wiederien withdrew his candidacy last month after he says it became clear he’d been manipulated into running against Nunn. Now he wants an investigation to uncover the motives of those who made his candidacy possible.”

No matter your party affiliation or who you are supporting this election, we should all agree that this is wrong. Iowa voters deserve nothing but truth and transparency in our election.
