Having never attended a Turning Point USA event, I am not quite sure what to expect here in Phoenix. The purpose in coming down here was to hear the message being given by conservative leaders to our young people.

Turning Point USA is focused on starting high school and college chapters and providing a support system for young conservatives. So, would they touch on the “controversial” issues of the day — or would they try to remain relevant by ignoring some of those heavier issues and sticking to broad, generic talking points?

The answer was pretty clear after the first day. Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, spoke at length about the “woke” movement of the political Left. But he also said the political class — both parties — have treated Americans poorly. He said it isn’t about Right vs. Left, it’s about right vs. wrong.

Kirk hit some pretty major topics — “racism in America,” COVID vaccine mandates, marrying young, starting a family, speaking out, being courageous and bold regardless of consequence.

Tucker Carlson talked about the importance of having children and leaving something behind when people leave the Earth.

It was actually pretty heavy stuff. Pretty mature stuff. Especially for a crowd that probably wasn’t full — or even half full — of married people.

The messages delivered on Saturday by Kirk and Carlson were good messages — great messages — that young people need to here. And at points, they definitely transcended politics.

Kirk talked about how America has always been rooted in eternal principles rooted in natural law. How often have these high school and college students heard something like that in their lives?

The messages were well received as well. There is no doubt we need more of these messages being delivered to our young people — Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal.

It was a good first day here in Phoenix.
