The Sioux County Sheriff released a press release Monday night detailing a “disturbance” that happened in Hull.

According to the release, deputies arrived at the intersection of 5th Street and Division Street after several 9-1-1 calls were received around 3:30 p.m. Deputies discovered three people had been involved in the disturbance, with two of them having stab wounds.

The victims were transported to Sioux Center Health for treatment. One male subject was taken into custody.

Heavy black smoke was reported by deputies coming from 1429 Division Street, which was near the original incident. Fire departments from Hull and Rock Valley responded, extinguishing the fire, which appeared to have started in a bedroom of the home. The release noted the fire is suspected to have been intentionally started before the disturbance.

While the subject taken into custody was not named in the press release, the Sioux County Sheriff’s arrest log lists an arrest of a person called Jorge Gomez Badillo. The address listed is 1429 Division St. in Hull. Charges against Badillo are not yet listed.

The Iowa Standard was told by individuals who witnessed the disturbance that men were shouting at each other in Spanish. The suspect allegedly tried to steal a law enforcement vehicle to escape, according to a source.

Children were walking home from school at the time and witnessed the incident as well.

According to Iowa Courts Online, Badillo has a brief criminal record:

Oct. 28, 2015: Violation of instruction permit limitation (guilty)

This incident comes just weeks after a fatal shooting in Le Mars, which is in Plymouth County — which neighbors Sioux County, where Hull is located.
