U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector’s Uvalde Station arrested a convicted sex offender shortly after he illegally entered the United States, March 22.

At approximately 5 p.m., agents responded to a request for assistance at traffic stop near Sabinal. Upon arrival, agents identified a smuggling event, took custody of all the smuggled migrants, and transported them to the Eagle Pass Station. During processing, record checks revealed that one of the subjects, a Mexican National, was previously convicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child in Galveston and sentenced to five years confinement. He was most recently removed from the United States in January.

As a convicted felon, he faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry after Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

All subjects are processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection policies.
