Some Democrats running for legislative seats in Iowa are taking to Twitter to mock parents concerned about education issues.
Deb VanderGaast, who is running for Iowa Senate, wrote:
”The same parents that demanding (sic) teachers post every lesson and all materials they plan to use won’t read a class syllabus if the teacher posts it or check their kid’s homework.”
Yes, that was a shot at parents concerned about education. Yes, it contained grammar issues.
So did this one…
”If parents go to school conferences, they will know what thier (sic) kids are learning in school. Kind of convenient that they are offered twice a year.”
VanderGaast also encouraged parents to go to conferences and stop by the library and “see for yourself what books they have instead of believing every Q’Anin (sic) rumor you hear.”
VanderGaast also wrote:
”The same parents that are demanding that teachers post all lessons and teaching materials online probably never read the syllabus for a college class.”
That tweet, however, is no longer on her Twitter feed. It certainly seems as though VanderGaast is implying students who would request transparency from teachers are likely too dumb to attend college. But, who knows…
While VanderGaast said she isn’t in favor of parents limiting their children’s access to library books, she said if a parent “must ban books,” then they should only be able to ban it for their own child, not all children.
And, if they want to “demand” a book be banned, they must read it and submit a book report to prove they’ve actually read it.
VanderGaast is running for Iowa Senate District 41.
