Iowa State Senator Jeff Danielson reportedly announced he is resigning his seat effective immediately from both the Senate and the Cedar Falls firefighter.
Danielson said his resignation relates to the ongoing controversy surrounding Cedar Falls and the firefighter’s union. According to the Waterloo Courier, Danielson will be the eighth firefighter to resign.
Danielson was serving his fourth term. He reportedly said he has another job lined up already.
An obvious Republican choice to run for the seat would be former State Rep. Walt Rogers. Rogers lost his bid for re-election in 2018, but certainly has an already established apparatus that would provide a head start in a special election effort.
