Name: Steve Gorman, Democrat

Office/District: State Senate District 8

Hometown: Council Bluffs

Profession: Firefighter

Why running for office: Gorman was born and raised in Council Bluffs. He is 58 years old and has been married to his wife, Chris, for 35 years. Chris is a school teacher in Council Bluffs and has taught for 33 years in the state of Iowa. They met in high school and graduated from St. Albert. In addition to being a firefighter, Gorman is a journeyman electrician who wired in industrial construction — mostly packing houses — for 22 years. Steve and Chris have two adult children.

“Public education and mental health are our top issues — working families. I decided to run for office because I don’t believe that our most vulnerable citizens in the state of Iowa are having their needs met, especially in mental health.
