Representative Tom Jeneary (R-Le Mars) defended Wells Enterprises after Sen. Claire Celsi (D-West Des Moines) encouraged her Twitter followers to “beware” of buying the company’s products. Wells is located in Le Mars.

“Living in Le Mars for more than 30 years, starting, growing and now handing my dental practice over to my son, raising both our two sons and now representing Le Mars in the Iowa legislature, this really makes me angry,” Jeneary said. “I respect the fact Sen. Celsi can have her own opinion and since we live in the greatest country in history, she gets to make that choice. I wonder if her take would be different if she lived in Cuba or Venezuela?”

Jeneary highlighted the impact Wells Enterprises has had in the community. It isn’t just about being a large employer, but also the philanthropy.

“The economic impact of Wells in Le Mars and northwest Iowa is staggering,” Jeneary said. “What she is supporting would cripple this part of the state. I truly hope this isn’t the new stance of the Iowa Democratic Party.

“This is the ugly side of politics — when politics so consumes your life that you attack an employer of thousands of people in your own state because some people support a candidate you don’t like. Life is too short to be angry and always looking for ways to be offended. Step outside and enjoy the sun, enjoy the day that the good Lord has given you.”

He offered an invitation to Celsi.

“If Sen. Celsi wants to escape her bubble, I hope she comes to Le Mars and tours the plant and facilities,” he said. “She can see firsthand how great Wells Blue Bunny is and all the wonderful things they do.”
