Representative Eli Crane’s amendment on behalf of Rep. Andy Biggs Thursday fell short on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. The amendment, which was offered to the Department of State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs funding bill, would have eliminated funding to the United States Institute of Peace.
The amendment lost 134-298. All 212 Democrats voted against it while 86 Republicans joined them. Iowa Representatives Ashley Hinson and Randy Feenstra voted to eliminate the funding while Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks voted against eliminating the funding for the United States Institute of Peace.
Most of the House Conservatives voted in favor of eliminating the funding.
According to the United States Institute of Peace, it was established in 1984 by Congress as an independent institution devoted to the nonviolent prevention and mitigation of deadly conflict abroad.
The bill appropriated $38.634 million for the United States Institute of Peace.
