Most voters support banning trans treatment for minors

Fifty-eight percent of likely U.S. voters approve of legislation making it illegal to perform sex-change surgery on minors. This includes 46 percent who strongly approve of such laws.

Thirty-seven percent do not approve of such laws, with 21 percent strongly disagreeing.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem signed a bill on Monday banning sex-change surgeries and hormone replacement treatment on minors. It is the sixth state to pass such a law.

Seventy-two percent of Republicans approve of state laws making it illegal to perform sex-change surgery on minors. Forty-five percent of Democrats approve as well. Sixty-one percent of unaffiliated voters approve of such bans.

Democrats offer the most opposition, with 45 percent saying they disapprove of such laws.

When it comes to hormone replacement treatment, 63 percent of Republicans, 54 percent of unaffiliated voters and 41 percent of Democrats at least somewhat approve of a ban.
