Of note, former Vice President Mike Pence was asked Monday night about getting people back to work. He told a brief story The Iowa Standard thought was worth sharing.
Pence said he believes increasing unemployment benefits nationally was “the right thing to do.” And, he added he was proud of the generosity of the American people.
Then he turned his attention to the vaccine mandate.
“The truth is that this vaccine mandate that’s being talked about is going to drive more people out of the workplace,” he said. “I was talking to a man that runs a trucking company here in Iowa today. He told me he surveyed his truckers and found that 15 percent would quit their job if they were required to take the vaccine now.
“You know, I’ve driven a few trucks in my day. I’m currently in between trucks, but people that drive 18-wheel trucks are usually alone most of the day, right? And they drop off at the warehouse and it just, to me, it makes no sense. We ought to be empowering Americans to have access to the medicines or the vaccines that they want. But let that be the American people’s choice or you’re going to make the situation worse.”
