Thomas Wenstrand of Henry County has filed an objection to Republican Rep. Jeff Shipley’s ballot petitions. Wenstrand, who has donated $3,100 to Shipley’s Republican primary opponent Joe Mitchell, alleges that the five signatures he argues should be invalid should keep Shipley off the ballot.
Candidates are required to have 50 signatures from eligible electors in their respective district. One of the issues is a “partial address.”
Shipley submitted 53 signatures. One of the signatures challenged is from a residence listed that isn’t located within House District 87.
Another challenged signature has a date listed as March 13, 2052 rather than March 13, 2022. The signature is presented as 3-13-52.
Two of the challenged signatures are located at “multi-unit” buildings and lack a unit number.
Finally, a fifth challenged signature provides just a partial address as the city is not legibly listed, according to Mitchell’s donor who filed the challenge.
