Taliban militants left in charge of Afghanistan by President Joe Biden’s surrender killed a pregnant policewoman in front of her husband and kids in what witnesses called a “door-to-door execution,” according to the Daily Mail.
According to the BBC, the Taliban said they had no involvement in the shooting and are investigating. The murder, according to Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujaheed, came down to “personal enmity or something else.”
Three sources told the BBC the Taliban beat her before shooting her. Details remain sketchy, though, as residents fear retribution if they speak out.
Human rights groups continue to document revenge killings, detentions and persecution of religious minorities despite the Taliban portraying themselves as more tolerant than their reputation.
Reports also indicate Taliban fighters going door to door in effort to find former members of the Afghan security forces and Western allies.
