Name: Tim Goodwin, Republican

Office/District: State Senate District 44

Hometown: Burlington

Profession: Former school administrator / Self-employed

Why running for office: “The main reason is to keep the strong, aggressive platform moving along that the Republicans have laid out the last four years. And then, to promote pro-growth economic policies, to reward work and investment, expand career opportunities and raise wages for workers in Southeast Iowa. Then also to continue to reduce the tax burden on hard-working Iowans.

“Additionally, I’ve got interest in education obviously, expanding mental health options and then making sure our farmers and ag sector are being supported. Just as important as it is to pass good legislation, it’s equally important to stop bad legislation from happening. I forget who said that but I liked it and it may not have been exactly how it was said, but a lot of people seem to like that when I say that. It certainly isn’t mine, but it is very true.”

Republican Sen. Tom Greene is not seeking re-election. Goodwin has one opponent in the Republican primary.
