Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said she is “on board and ready to go” in terms of taking refugees from Afghanistan. Reynolds made the comments to the media while attending the Iowa State Fair.

“The message that I want to relay to Iowans is that we want to be a partner,” she said. “We want them to be here, and we want them to know that. And we’ll work those processes, whatever they may be.”

Reynolds said the situation in Afghanistan and the situation at the southern border are “completely different.”

According to The Des Moines Register, Sen. Joni Ernst told the newspaper Afghan refugees are “wonderful.”

“They’ve supported our men and women in uniform, they love America, they are hard workers,” she reportedly said. “We would love to welcome them to the state.”
