It doesn’t take a long search through the contributions made to the Iowa Democrat Party to find an interesting one.

On the report filed for the May 19 deadline, Karla Jurvetson contributed $900,000 to the Iowa Democrat Party.

Jurvetson lives in Los Altos, California, which is about 40 minutes south of San Francisco.

Jurvetson is a “long-time” Democrat activist and donor, according to Influence Watch. During the 2018 election cycle, Jurvetson gave $6.9 million to Democrat political causes. She was the third-highest female donor in politics and the 18th-highest donor overall.

Karla married Steve Jurvetson in 1990. Steve was co-founder of Future Ventures and an early investor in Hotmail, Tesla and SpaceX. Steve left Future Ventures in 2017 following multiple sexual harassment allegations. The couple divorced in 2016.

Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) is an American venture capital firm. The firm apologized for an “event” hosted by Steve Jurvetson that featured “rampant sex and drug use” following a DFJ event, according to Bloomberg journalist Emily Chang.

The party was private, but reportedly immediately followed a one-day DFJ conference and was attended by some DFJ partners and staff, creating the impression it was a DFJ-sanctioned event.

The allegation of it being a sex party is disputed by Jurvetson.

Steve left DFJ over a pattern of deception and affairs with women.

As for Karla, she has volunteered for Democrat political causes for more than 30 years. She sits on the board of EMILY’s List, a Democrat PAC focused on propping up pro-abortion female candidates.

In May of 2018, again according to Influence Watch, she gave 21,635 shares of Baidu corporate stock to Women Vote! PAC. The stock was sold for more than $5.4 million. That donation brought criticism as it came in the form of stock in a Chinese corporation with strong ties to the Chinese government.

In January of 2019, she gave more than $1,028,000 to Fair Fight PAC, the PAC formed by Stacey Abrams. That donation made Jurvetson the group’s single-largest individual contributor.
