On Saturday, deadly tornadoes swept through Iowa destroying homes, parks and leaving over ten thousand people without power.

Tragically, seven people – five adults and two children, also died and many people are wounded from the severe weather.

This is the deadliest tornado to have hit our state in nearly 15 years.

As families, businesses and communities continue to assess the damage and cleanup from these storms, I want Iowans to know that I have talked to Secretary Mayorkas about these tornadoes.

I have reached out to FEMA, the State of Iowa and affected communities.

I will do everything I can at the federal level to assist.

Unfortunately, Iowa is no stranger to tornadoes and natural disasters.

I once again am encouraged by the stories I hear of neighbors and strangers helping each other and their communities.

These storms take time to recover from and I know that we will continue to reach out and help our fellow Iowans in need.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones and property affected by these tornadoes.

I also pray for those who were wounded that they have a speedy recovery.

Iowans are strong and resilient people. We will recover.

As Iowa’s senior U.S. senator, I’ll be there every step of the way.
