A Rasmussen Reports national phone and online survey shows only 41 percent of likely U.S. voters believe neither party in Congress is the party of the American people.
It represents a six-point drop from two years ago.
Fifty-three percent of unaffiliated voters said neither party in Congress represents the American people. Thirty-eight percent of Democrats agree and 37 percent of Republicans feel the same.
While 46 percent of Democrats say the average Democrat in Congress is about the same as them in political terms, just 31 percent of Republican voters feel that way about the average GOP member of Congress.
Of those surveyed, 55 percent said the average Democrat in Congress is more liberal than they are. Meanwhile, 39 percent of voters believe the average Republican in Congress is more conservative than they are.
Twenty-four percent of all voters said the average Republican in Congress is more liberal than they are. Just 13 percent of voters believe the average Democrat in Congress is more conservative than they are.
