Jeff Taylor will start his first session as state senator in one week. The Republican from Sioux County is replacing Randy Feenstra in the Iowa Senate.

Taylor said his first priority as a new legislator will be getting to know his colleagues as well as the process so he can be effective when it comes to working on behalf of his key values, his constituents and Iowans in general.

Three policy areas he is focused on addressing are:

  1. Promoting the protection of unborn human life, and all life.

“Government exists to safeguard our God-given rights,” Taylor said. “The right to life is the most foundational of all.”

2. Promote quality education of Iowa children, including respect for diverse means toa achieve this goal.

“More specifically, I want to ensure that public education prioritizes citizen accountability, student fairness and curricular integrity.”

3. Protect the reserved powers of our state government, as guaranteed by the U.S. Tenth Amendment.

Taylor said there are other policy areas of interest and they will become more apparent as the legislative session progresses.
