A new Rasmussen Reports national phone and online survey found 49 percent of likely U.S. voters believe last year’s protests against police hurt public safety. Only 22 percent said the protests helped public safety and 21 percent do not believe it made much difference.
Violent crime has spiked since George Floyd’s death last summer. President Joe Biden rolled out an agenda to address this crisis on Wednesday.
Even though many believe the anti-police protests hurt public safety, 49 percent of voters still have a favorable impression of the Black Lives Matter movement. Forty-seven percent have an unfavorable view. Thirty-two percent have a very unfavorable opinion while 27 percent have a very favorable opinion. Last year at this time, 62 percent of voters had a favorable view of BLM.
