Various media outlets are reporting a Kentucky daycare worker who is male but identifies as a female has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse of a victim under 12 years old.

Maria Childers has an arraignment scheduled for March 23, according to WPSD-TV.

The local outlet reports Childres was working at Explore Learning Academy in Paducah when the abuse allegedly happened in November. According to WPSD-TV, local police received a report on Feb. 8 from the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services. The complaint was made by an anonymous reporter.

Officials went to the center and spoke with a witness who corroborated the details of the anonymous report, according to WPSD-TV. The daycare facility’s director told police she was aware of the allegation and wrote up Childres regarding the inappropriate comments.

An officer interviewed Childres, who initially denied the accusations. Childres denied changing the infant’s diaper, but changed the claim after the officer read a text Childres sent to the director stating Childres did change the child’s diaper.

Childres denied touching the child inappropriately and denied making inappropriate remarks.

The Post Millennial reports Childres identifies as a transgender woman.
