All three of the COVID-19 vaccines available in the U.S. have seen declines in their effectiveness during the last six months. So much so that two of the three have fallen under 50 percent after six months.

Researchers found that Moderna’s vaccine dropped to 58 percent in September. It was 89.2 percent effective in March. Over the same time period, Pfizer’s vaccine fell to 43.3 percent and Johnson & Johnson’s jab dropped all the way to a measly 13.1 percent.

Last year, the head of the FDA under President Donald J. Trump, said the agency would not authorize vaccines that were not at least 50 percent effective against infection.

Among older people, the effectiveness of the vaccines protecting against death also dropped.
