About 25 supporters showed up to show their enthusiasm for former Congressman David Young on Monday. The group gathered at KCCI, which hosted the Third Congressional District debate between Young and Congresswoman Cindy Axne.

One of those supporters was Debbie from Johnston. She talked about Young winning the GOP nomination back in 2014.

“He was the most positive and persistent,” she said. “He hung in there and he’s the one that lasted. That’s who we elected and he did a great job.”

Debbie said the biggest difference between Young and Axne is the simple fact that Young showed up for work while in Congress.

“He showed up for every vote in his first two terms,” she said. “His opponent has missed a number of votes where she either wasn’t there or she had a proxy vote for her from Maryland. She’s missed votes, David Young never missed a vote. And I know the agriculture community loves him and misses him.”

Young supporters also had these Jamie Raskin signs. Raskin is the congressman from Maryland who Axne has allowed to vote on her behalf in Congress.

Debbie said she hopes Young returns to Congress and Republicans can get control of the House to end the gridlock in Washington.

“Hopefully he’ll get back in and serve the Third District as well as he did before,” she said. “And better than we’ve had the last two years.”
