The Jefferson swimming pool will host a “Gender Inclusive Pool Party” on Friday, Aug. 13 from 7-9 p.m. The municipal swimming pool said it will provide the lifeguards, but due to state law there is nothing that can be done about it.
I’d imagine they’re referring to the Iowa Civil Rights Code once again, which added sexual orientation and gender identity in 2007. Some Republicans in the Iowa House introduced a bill to strip that out of the civil rights code a couple of years ago, but the bill was killed in the Judiciary Committee.
The Iowa Standard was told individuals can use whatever restroom they identify as. When asked about wearing swim attire that is appropriate for gender identity or biology, we were told it hasn’t gone that far, yet.
This event comes on the heels of the Pella Aquatic Center allowing a middle teenaged biological female to use the facility topless and to use the men’s rooms in front of boys of all ages.
