***This was one of the most popular stories on The Iowa Standard in 2021. During this time, when things are slow, we republish our most popular stories from the calendar year. It appears this incident will be judged in February, 2022. The individual is still listed on the Johnston School District website as an employee.***

Kathleen Galloway Menke was one of four people arrested at Monday’s Des Moines City Council meeting. Galloway Menke is a special education associate according to the district’s website. She was arrested for interference with official acts.

The Johnston School District said it is aware of an employee who was arrested at Monday night’s city council meeting. The Human Resources Department is following its protocol for working with the employee in this situation.

Board policy states employees must notify the district of any arrests and notification to the Department of Human Resources should occur within three business days of notification to the employee.

The district said any further administrative actions related to the incident will be confidential.

You can watch the moments that led to the arrests of the four individuals at the meeting below.

Menke appears at the 3:47 mark of the video. She is arrested at the 4:02 mark.
