The March Harvard-Harris Poll revealed that 83 percent of those polled favor shutting down immigration from Mexico until the COVID-19 crisis is over.

There were a total of 1,997 respondents who voted in favor while 406 opposed.

While 87 percent of whites favored ending immigration from Mexico during the pandemic, they were joined by 77 percent of blacks and 75 percent of Hispanics.

In addition, 73 percent of Democrats were in favor, 84 percent of Independents were supportive and 93 percent of Republicans registered in support.

Few poll questions can produce such an overwhelming majority.

Jonathan Hanen, a writer for Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), covered the result.

“The clear takeaway from this most recent poll is that the American electorate as a whole recognizes that border security is national security,” Hanen wrote. “Moreover, the national health and economic crises touched off by the global pandemic have driven home the lesson that a return to the comprehensive public health screening regiment of Ellis Island is sound public policy for all legal immigrants and travelers to the United States.

“The Coronavirus is giving American voters a new appreciation for the commonsense view that a nation without borders is no nation at all.”
