Democrat State Rep. Beth Wessel-Kroeschell made some interesting comments Tuesday morning during a House subcommittee hearing on the life amendment proposed to the Iowa Constitution.
The amendment makes the Iowa Constitution neutral on abortion.
Kroeschell started her remarks by saying that if everyone truly valued life, they’d be wearing a mask.
“And I am so, so sad to see that that’s not happening here,” she said, prior to releasing a big sigh.
Democrats have been pushing for a mask mandate inside the Iowa Capitol, desiring a policy that forces Iowans to wear a mask.
Which leads to an interesting remark…
Wessel-Kroeschell quoted the majority opinion from the Iowa Supreme Court decision that is the reason the amendment is needed.
She quoted former Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady, who said autonomy and dominion over one’s body go to the very heart of what it means to be free.
Ah. Ah. Waaaiiiit a minute.
So Wessel-Kroeschell, who said it is “absurd” that some Iowans aren’t wearing masks, went from everyone should be wearing a mask to valuing autonomy and dominion over one’s own body?
What the heck?
What about one’s own face?
Does she not hear herself talking? Did she not write her own prepared remarks and see the startling hypocrisy?
Definition of autonomy: “the right or condition of self-government.”
Definition of dominion: “sovereignty or control.”
So, when it comes to the practice of allowing a doctor to intentionally end a pregnancy by killing an unborn child, we must have autonomy and dominion.
But when it comes to adults deciding whether or not they throw a mask on their face – hey, it’s public health. It’s how you show you care. It’s how you show you’re pro-life.
Give me a break.
Wessel-Kroeschell said the constitutional amendment that neither allows abortion nor outlaws it, will result in women dying.
She called the proposed amendment – which would have to be passed by a majority of Iowans in order to take effect – reckless, insulting and diminishing the value of women and mothers in Iowa.
It is a hypocrisy that knows no bounds.
It is a sad reflection of where the Democrat Party is in 2021. And it explains why Republicans in Iowa continue to kick Democrats at the ballot box in the Hawkeye State.
On one hand, it’d be nice to have a Democrat Party that wasn’t so obviously hypocritical. That cared slightly more about the more than 63 million unborn babies who have been slaughtered since 1973 than they cared about whether we slapped a piece of cloth across our face that, in reality, doesn’t do much – if anything – to stop the spread of the virus.
On the other hand, we know radical ideas and rank hypocrisy like this will keep the Democrats in the minority for years to come.
Ironically, Wessel-Kroeschell was wearing a mask that said “Save the Grandmas, wear a mask.”
Wouldn’t a grandmother want to save the babies? Or at least save their grandson or granddaughter?
Wessel-Kroeschell…”Wear a mask to save grandma, but continue the killing of unborn babies to keep grandmas from becoming grandmas.”
More hypocrisy.
