The Polk County Sheriff’s Office put out the following statement regarding the report about possible unaccompanied minors being flown to Des Moines from Long Beach and detained at the Polk County Jail.
While the flight did indeed happen, no children have been detained at the Polk County Jail.
“This information is not accurate and at no time has the Sheriff’s Office housed migrant children in our jail facility.”
The sheriff’s office also told The Iowa Standard that all law enforcement duties at the airport are handled by the Des Moines Police Department.
The sheriff’s office is unaware of any flight and at no time housed the children.
