It didn’t take long for law enforcement at the University of Iowa to respond to the first encampment effort on Monday.

Early on Monday, the Instagram account called uiowa.action.for.palestine announced the camp was set up and called for “all bodies” to Hubbard Park “ASAP.”

According to the group, less than 30 minutes after beginning set up, about nine cops showed up with Mark Bullock, who is the assistant vice president for campus safety.

“As far as can be told, everyone made it out safely,” the group said. “UIPD is infamous for its tracking and surveillance, which will come as no surprise to many of us. Fascist and authoritarian governments rely on tracking our every move – and many of the surveillance technologies they rely on to do so are a product of Israeli technology that has been tried and tested on occupied Palestinians.”

The pro-Palestinian protestors plan to be back, however.

“The liberated zone has been disband for now,” they posted. “We will be back. Nothing can stop the revolution.”
