We’re learning only ONE of the Grundy County Iowa Board of Supervisors opted to elevate the civil liberties of their citizens yesterday.  Patriot, Army National Guard Specialist, and Iowan, Lucas Halverson, had a 2A Sanctuary Resolution added to the agenda for the 7/26/2021 meeting.  Lucas Halverson motioned to pass the resolution, and it DIED for lack of a second, thus receiving no votes according to Halverson.

There is a discrepancy though.  IFC spoke with two Grundy County Supervisors by phone.  Supervisor Halverson claims to have motioned Grundy County Resolution #11, and nobody seconded the motion.  Supervisor Nederhoff claims no motions were made on either 2A Resolutions (#10 and #11).  If Supervisor Nederhoff is being completely forthcoming, it begs the question of why four of the five supervisors didn’t take the opportunity to make a motion if they all claim they didn’t understand that Halverson had.

We’re not sure what happened.  What we do know is this…  IF we chalk up the first 2A Resolution from the agenda as a mid-meeting miscommunication, there should be no reason for Grundy County Supervisors to not move it forward at the next meeting, now that the error has been exposed.  This is simple – are the Grundy County Supervisors going to support your civil liberties proactively or are they going to stand silently as so many did during Jim Crow and racist origins of early gun control only to see it happen again?  The idea that “we’ll take this up if something bad happens in the future” is bad governance and beneath an elected official.  If anyone can find a more maligned, cajoled, or manipulated item in the Bill of Rights than the 2nd Amendment, we’d like to learn what it is.  There is a darned good reason to signal to others with a resolution that you support their civil rights.  Grundy County should know this.

Here is the contact information for the Grundy County Supervisors.  Let them know your stance on this.
