El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported felon Monday evening.
At around 8:50 p.m., agents assigned to the Calexico Station, arrested a man suspected of illegally entering the U.S. approximately 12 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry. Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro station to confirm his identity and evaluate his criminal and immigration history.
Agents identified the man as, Alberto Martinez Flores, a 42-year-old Mexican national. Record checks revealed that he had an extensive criminal history. It included a 2009 arrest and conviction for assault, strangulation and unlawful imprisonment, which he received a 43-month sentence to prison. Martinez was also arrested and convicted in 2017 for vehicular assault. He received a 13-month sentence in prison for that offense. Additionally, Martinez was previously removed from the United States in 2018.
Martinez admitted he intended to travel to Los Angeles to take up residence there.
“Our agents were able to arrest Martinez without incident,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David Kim. “This man’s criminal history clearly shows how dangerous he is and now he’s off the streets thanks to our agents’ hard work and diligence.”
Martinez is in federal custody pending felony immigration charges.
All arrested individuals are presumed innocent pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
