The Taliban gave the United States a deadline of Sept. 11 to have all American troops out of the country — or else. According to Sky News, Suhail Shaheen said the group is committed not to attack them, but made clear they want the Americans gone after Sept. 11.
Troops were expected to be withdrawn by the end of August, however they returned to Afghanistan due to the Biden administration’s failed withdrawal. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president of Germany, said the scenes from the Kabul Airport “shame the political West.”
White House officials confirmed the administration is counting on the Taliban to help ensure the safe passage of people to the Kabul Airport.
Six weeks ago Biden was asked if he trusted the Taliban. He said:
“No, I do not trust the Taliban.”
Jake Sullivan, a National Security Advisor, admitted a “fair amount” of U.S. weaponry had been taken by the Taliban. When asked what the administration expects will happen to everything the Taliban has taken, he said there is not a “complete picture” of where every article of defense materials has gone.
