Earlier this week we told you about Representatives Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Randy Feenstra all voting with Congresswoman Cindy Axne in support of the National Defense Authorization Act.
This year’s NDAA features two major policies — forcing women to register for selective service and Red Flag laws for our military.
Hinson said she voted for the bill despite it containing what she called “Red Flag-like language.” She did so because the vote was necessary to push things along, according to Iowa Firearms Coalition.
And, Hinson added, representatives were given assurances that the Red Flag components would be removed from the final version of the bill.
Congressman Mike Rogers, the ranking member of the Committee on Armed Services, wrote a letter to Congressman Don Bacon stating the Red Flag language would be dropped this year during conference committee just as it was last year.
“Just like you, I will not support a conference report that includes this language, and I will not let it become law,” Rogers wrote.
The bill passed with a 316-113 margin — so clearly Republicans who were uncomfortable with the Red Flag language in this version could have voted against it.
Members of the House Freedom Caucus voted against the bill due to the requirement for females to register for selective service.
Hinson said she would not support the final version of the bill if it contains the Red Flag-like language in the bill she voted for last week.
