Fifty-nine percent of likely U.S. voters expect President Joe Biden to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court according to a new national phone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports.
Just 19 percent believe Biden will break that campaign promise.
Whether it is a good idea to make race and gender the basis for appointing someone to the Supreme Court, however, is another question. Just 26 percent of voters think that is a good idea. Sixty-one percent said picking justices on the basis of race and gender is a bad idea.
Thirty-seven percent said the Supreme Court is doing a good or excellent job. While low, it is a four-point jump since last September. The all-time high is only 43 percent.
Forty-seven percent of Democrats think it is a good idea to make race and gender the basis of choosing appointments to the Supreme Court. Just 11 percent of Republicans and 16 percent of unaffiliated voters agree.
