The Polk County Health Department refused to allow an Iowa family to schedule an appointment for one vaccine because the child is not fully vaccinated for COVID.
The new policy, the family was told, was the COVID vaccine is required for treatment at the Polk County Health Department.
The Iowa Standard called the Polk County Health Department to ask if this is indeed the policy and was told they require any vaccines someone is due for based upon CDC/ACIP guidelines be received at that time.
“Even if (the vaccines) are not required for school we require that they do all the vaccines that are recommended,” the Polk County Health Department person said. “We don’t allow them to decline.”
For example, if a family wanted to get physicals at the office but the patients are unvaccinated for COVID, they wouldn’t be able to get a physical at the Polk County Health Department.
