Today, as President Biden signs Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spend bill into law, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) released the following statement slamming Democrats for putting their liberal agenda ahead of Americans’ top concerns:

“Instead of focusing on combatting sky-high gas prices, securing a wide-open Southern border, and lowering historic costs of living and inflation, President Biden and Democrats have chosen to spend billions more of taxpayer dollars on their liberal wish list,” said Ernst. “For Democrats, ‘inflation reduction’ means increasing taxes on hardworking Americans, supersizing the IRS, and crushing American energy and small business.

“Once again, liberals in Washington are putting their reckless tax-and-spend agenda ahead of Americans’ most pressing concerns.”

As the Senate considered the bill, Senator Ernst proposed an amendment to prevent tax dollars from being used to subsidize luxury electric vehicles (EV) that include parts or components manufactured by slave or child labor. Democrats blocked the provision, opting to incentivize the purchase of EVs without addressing its forced labor supply chain.
