One of President Joe Biden’s “gender fluid” officials has been charged with felony theft according to multiple media reports after allegedly stealing a woman’s luggage at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport last month.
Sam Brinton announced earlier this year he would be deputy assistant secretary of the Office of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition in the U.S. Department of Energy. He proclaimed himself one of, if not the very first, openly genderfluid individuals in federal government leadership.
Before working in government, Brinton was an anti-conversion therapy activist. He taught “Kink 101” workshops at college campuses, according to The National Pulse.
He also was a keynote speaker at a fundraiser hosted by GLBT Youth in Iowa Schools Task Force (fictitiously known as “Iowa Safe Schools”) to ban conversion therapy in Iowa. Legislators who spoke at the event were Republican State Rep. Bobby Kaufmann and Republican State Sen. Chris Cournoyer.
According to reports, law enforcement at the MSP International Airport was alerted to the missing suitcase from the baggage claim area on Sept. 16. The female victim couldn’t find her bag on the carousel.
Airport records confirmed the roller bag arrived at 4:40 p.m. but the navy blue Vera Bradley item was missing. After reviewing video surveillance footage, law enforcement observed Brinton removing the bag, removing a luggage tag from the bag, placing it into a handbag he was carrying and leaving the area “at a quick pace.”
According to the complaint, Brinton arrived at MSP around 4:27 p.m. from D.C. but didn’t check a bag, meaning he had no reason to visit the baggage claim.
According to the complaint, Brinton checked into the hotel with the blue bag and returned to MSP on Sept. 18 with the bag in hand for a departing flight back to D.C. Footage from Dulles International Airport shows him traveling with the bag on an Oct. 9 return trip from Europe.
The victim estimated the value of the bag as well as its contents around $2,325.
According to reports, police questioned Brinton about the bag in an Oct. 9 phone call and asked if he took anything that didn’t belong to him. He responded, “not that I know of.”
He later admitted to taking the bag but said the clothes in it were his. Two hours later he called and apologized for not being “completely honest.” He said he took the bag because he was tired and thought it was his. He then said he realized at the hotel it wasn’t his when he opened it and “got nervous” and did not “know what to do.”
He told police he left the victim’s clothes in the drawers in his hotel room. According to police, he said he brought the bag back to D.C. because it would’ve been “weirder” to leave it in the hotel room.
Police told Brinton how he could return the luggage to Delta, but as of late last month, the woman had not received her back. No clothing was recovered from the hotel room either. Brinton has a court hearing scheduled for Dec. 19 in Hennepin County.
