On Monday, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed LB 574, which prohibits the prescription of puberty-blocking drugs, cross-sex hormones and surgeries to minors for the purposes of attempting to change their sex. Nebraska is now the 19th state to act to restrict these procedures in some capacity.

American Principles Project (APP) was active in the state, engaging activists to encourage legislators to pass the bill.

In response, APP President Terry Schilling released the following statement applauding the new law:

“More and more evidence continues to appear revealing the flimsy basis of so-called ‘gender affirming care.’ While activist-driven, pharmaceutical-funded medical groups continue to insist that sex changes for children are ‘life-saving,’ in recent days, a survey of U.S. military healthcare patients has surfaced showing that nearly a third of the individuals who began taking hormones as part of a ‘gender transition’ had stopped doing so after just four years. Despite the transgender industry’s claim that detransition is extremely rare, the truth is finally coming out.

“The vast majority of Americans recognize that kids are far too young to be making decisions that will permanently sterilize them and require lifelong medical intervention. Gov. Pillen and Nebraska lawmakers deserve praise for acting decisively to protect their state’s children, and we thank them for taking a strong stand on this issue.”
