A report from The New York Times last week claimed that Secret Service agents had one final chance to get it right at the Butler, Pennsylvania rally where President Donald J. Trump was grazed by a bullet.

While law enforcement wasted 90 minutes to confront the shooter, about 30 seconds before the trigger was pulled, an officer reportedly shouted “Long gun!” on the local law enforcement radio system.

According to the New York Times, “they still had time to disrupt an assassination attempt” at that point. It is said the radio message never made it to Secret Service. The Times suggested three possible explanations:

*The communication system malfunctioned.
*The system was not properly deployed.
*The Secret Service elected not to use the radio system that was utilized by local law enforcement.
