Congresswoman Nancy Mace said Monday that while she never thought it would be necessary, a resolution will be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives that prohibits men from entering protected spaces for women on Capitol grounds.
“Protecting biological women starts here and starts now,” Mace said.
Mace will submit the resolution. It requires members of the House, officers and employees from using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.
“Allowing biological males into single-sex facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms and changing rooms designed for women, jeopardizes the safety and dignity of members, officers and employees of the House who are female,” the resolution states.
Mace said the resolution shouldn’t be controversial as it protects women.
“Playing make believe dress up doesn’t mean you should be allowed in women’s private spaces,” Mace said. “Women’s bathrooms are for biological women. Not men in a mini skirt.”
The resolution follows the election of “Sarah” McBride, a transgender individual elected to the U.S. House by Delaware. McBride said the issue is being used as a “distraction,” according to reports.
“This is a blatant attempt from far right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing,” McBride said in a statement. “We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care and child care, not manufacturing culture wars.”
Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said the resolution “is not just bigotry, this is just plain bullying.”
Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she supports a resolution that prohibits men out of women’s private places not just at the Capitol, but in all taxpayer-funded facilities. MTG said McBride is a man when asked about how to verify someone is qualified to use the women’s restroom.
“He’s a man. He’s a biological male,” MTG said. “So he is not allowed to use our women’s restrooms, our women’s gym, our locker rooms and spaces that are specified for women. He’s a biological male. He has plenty of places he can go. He can go in the men’s room and he has a bathroom in his office just like all of us do.”
MTG said men need to respect women’s spaces.
“That’s what this election was all about,” she said. “This was a mandate from the American people. They’re fed up with the Left shoving their sick trans ideology down our throats and invading our spaces and our women’s sports. So, sorry for the uncomfortable question, but I’m giving you the direct answer. The American people spoke at the election — they’re sick of this shit.”
