Ankeny School District Superintendent, a person called Erick Pruitt, sent an email to high school parents relating to the end-of-year drag show that took place with the Gay-Straight Alliance.

According to Pruitt, the Gay-Straight Alliance is an approved school club, but the performance was “not approved” by the building administration and did not follow proper protocols prior to the meeting.

“The district is investigating the incident and following the processes and procedures laid out in board policy as this performance was not approved by building administrators,” Pruitt wrote. “There is considerable inaccurate and unverified information being shared via various social media accounts.”

Pruitt said the performance was after school and localized to students participating in the club. He reiterated it wasn’t approved and is being investigated.

Mollie Blahunka is listed as the sponsor for the Gay-Straight Alliance on her profile at Ankeny High School. She says she is originally from the Chicago area, but is an “Iowan at heart.”
