According to reports today, President Biden’s Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona has been implicated in efforts by the administration to vilify concerned parents speaking out against their local school boards.

An email exchange between officials at the National School Boards Association (NSBA), obtained via FOIA request, indicates that the group’s September letter to the Department of Justice likening the activities of parents to “domestic terrorism” was sent at the request of Cardona. The letter was later used as grounds for a DOJ initiative to crack down on vaguely defined “threats” against school officials.

In response, APP President Terry Schilling released the following statement calling for Cardona to resign:

“Over the last year, as parents have become aware of the awful state of public education in this country, they have rightfully taken to school board meetings to demand accountability. Education officials should have responded by working to understand their concerns and address them. Instead, many, including those in the Biden administration, have demonized those parents and attempted to paint them as dangerous—even potential terrorists. This is an outrageous travesty.

“We had known since last year that Attorney General Merrick Garland and the NSBA were involved in this plot. But now, it appears Secretary Cardona was a key leader from the beginning as well. It is totally unacceptable that someone with such extreme, anti-parent views should be leading our nation’s largest government education agency. If Secretary Cardona indeed was involved in the conception of the NSBA’s ‘domestic terrorism’ letter, he must resign immediately.

“Parents should be confident that federal education policy is being set by someone who understands and respects their rights. If the Biden administration and Democrats continue to trample on those rights, they should expect severe electoral consequences in November. Virginia was only the beginning.”
