Four years ago Iowa Republicans were giddy at the thought of the Hawkeye State becoming the “data capital of the world.” For instance, Congressman Randy Feenstra (who was then a state senator) wrote:
“It has been noted that there is no other state in the nation that has large business data centers from Google, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft,” Feenstra wrote. “I had the opportunity to meet with Apple this past week. They are building two massive facilities in Waukee…Although some complain that Iowa gave some tax credits to Apple to locate in Iowa, remember, a tax credit can only be used if profits are made by the company.”
Feenstra closed:
“The property taxes, sales taxes and employment taxes will be a massive economic lift for Iowa. Iowa looks to be the tech state of the nation.”
Governor Kim Reynolds was also excited about Apple’s “significant investment and commitment” to grow in the state.
“This announcement further solidifies Iowa as a hub where innovation and technology flourish and demonstrates this is a place where world-class companies can thrive,” Reynolds said back in 2017.
Apple received hundreds of millions of dollars in incentives to build the data center.
I said it back then, and I’ll say it now — there are problems for conservatives and conservatism when the red carpet is rolled out for Apple.
And we’ve seen it play out before.
It’s playing out again now as Apple is the only corporate interest so far registered against a bill that will Protect Women’s Sports in Iowa. The bill simply states that only biological females will be allowed to compete in female sports.
Lobbyists Jeffrey Boeyink, Brittany Lumley and Taylor McDonald registered against the bill for Apple Inc.
Why can’t people like Feenstra and Reynolds see that when giant liberal influencers want a piece of your state, and get tax incentives to come here, there are freedom consequences. ALWAYS follow the money. Age old lesson.
I have no idea why Apple would be involved with something that doesn’t appear to be related to their business.
But.. money talks!
Moms, dads, grandparents, friends who want to stand up for these girls – if you don’t like their stance, stop buying their products.
If you are a high school girl that wants to have a fair playing field in sports, it only seems right that you would want to ditch your Apple products/services. If you really care, you have to make a stand.
