If you ever wonder about the reference sometimes made to the “Kook Left,” this likely provides a pretty good example of what someone might be referring to.
Laurie Garrett, who is a former senior fellow at Council on Foreign Relations, recipient of a Pulitzer Prize, Polk (twice) and Peabody Awards — all according to her Twitter account, is not happy about how others are addressing public health officials.
Her concern was specifically for Dr. Anthony Fauci. Her disdain was directed toward Jesse Watters as well as Steve Bannon and Lara Logan.
Here was Garrett’s “question.”
“My question is to Jeff, um, over the last year and a half roughly, we’ve seen a steady escalation and attacks directed personally against Dr. Fauci and generally against public health leadership, including death threats. And this has escalated to the point where we now have actually had Jesse Watters call upon his followers in Fox News land to quote ‘ambush Tony and his family’ and to quote ‘take the kill shot.’ And then this was backed up by Steve Bannon. We’ve had Lara Logan say to her followers, that Tony is Josef Mengele and should be handled accordingly and so on. And all over the country, public health leaders are getting death threats. They’re getting threats against their families and we have not heard a peep from the President, from the White House, from members of Congress on the Democrat side in the defense of these individuals or nor have we heard anything about the Department of Justice issuing indictments. Is it now legal to yell uh in public that people should kill and ambush federal health officials?”
I was at America Fest when Jesse Watters talked about “ambushing” Dr. Fauci. If Garrett had an ounce of intelligence, or integrity, she would recognize that Watters was clearly talking about an ambush-style interview. He told those in attendance it would just take 30 seconds with Fauci and walked them through what questions to ask.
There was no hint of a serious threat. For Garrett to suggest otherwise is laughable. And if she really believes Jesse Watters was telling people they should kill and ambush federal health officials, well, she has some real deficiencies in the reading and comprehension portion of life.
