U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to Del Rio Sector arrested a convicted sex offender shortly after he illegally entered the United States, July 2.

Just after 11 a.m., Brackettville Station agents apprehended a group of 11 subjects walking through some brush attempting to avoid detection. It was determined that all subjects were present in the United States illegally and were transported to the Brackettville Station. During processing, record checks revealed a Guatemalan national, Hector Portillo-Soto, 36, was previously convicted of rape in Louisiana in 2019, sentenced to three years in prison and subsequently deported in February 2022.

As a convicted felon with a prior removal, he faces a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – re-entry after deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

During fiscal year 2022, Oct. 1, 2021, through May 31, Del Rio Sector agents have encountered more than 1,269 criminal migrants.

All subjects are processed in accordance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection policies.
