On Tuesday, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett (TN-02) introduced a resolution to condemn the fifty-one members of the intelligence community who signed onto a letter dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop story ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

“We rely on our intelligence community for life or death matters, and they have let us down. They allowed politics to infiltrate their operations, and they are now the deep state and the ruling class.” Said Rep. Burchett.

On October 14, 2020, a story was published that revealed Hunter Biden’s laptop contained emails suggesting Hunter Biden provided Ukrainian energy officials access to meet then-Vice President Joe Biden. A few days later, on October 19, fifty-one members of the intelligence community signed onto a letter attempting to discredit the story, claiming it had, “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” This was less than one month before the 2020 presidential election.

Rep. Burchett’s resolution recognizes that the letter was meant to discredit the laptop story by making misleading claims to the American people and condemns the fifty-one former intelligence community officials for interfering in the 2020 presidential election.
