Reports indicate that Guatemalan soldiers have blocked part of a caravan of potentially 9,000 Honduran migrants.
It is believed the caravan is attempting to reach the United States border where they hope they’ll be welcomed with a new administration on the horizon.
Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei put out a statement calling on Honduran authorities to “contain the mass exit of its inhabitants.”
Mexico has continued to drill National Guard members and immigration agents at its southern border.
President Donald J. Trump warned of the caravans of illegal immigrants forming in anticipation of Joe Biden taking control of the White House.
“As you know we’ve completed the wall. They may want to expand it. We have the expansion underway. It’s been tremendously successful, far beyond what anyone thought. We’re stopping in large numbers the drugs coming into the country for many, many years and decades. We’re stopping a lot of illegal immigration. Our numbers have been very good,” Trump said early last week.
The President said there seems to be a surge now because they think they’ll be able to get through due to Biden’s administration.
