Rep. Ross Wilburn, chair of the Iowa Democrats, took to Twitter on Thursday to criticize Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds for requesting oversight into a flight with unaccompanied migrant children from the border landing in Iowa on April 22 and dispersing the children across the Midwest.

“(Gov. Kim Reynolds) does not care about the well-being of migrant children brought into Iowa,” said Wilburn, who hadn’t made any public statement about these kids that we are aware of until today. “She said so herself back in April. She’s only focused on dividing and distracting Iowans from her own record and using a fake crisis to further attacks on our friends and neighbors.”

Wilburn added that Iowa Dems want to “solve the real problems within our own state borders, not play partisan politics that only seek to divide us further.”

One could wonder where Wilburn’s concern for these kids was back in April and May when government entities were denying any such flight took place and the whereabouts of these unaccompanied migrant children couldn’t be verified by any government official.

Nearly two weeks to the day that an illegal immigrant was found guilty of murdering an Iowan (Mollie Tibbetts), Wilburn has the audacity to suggest illegal immigration is not a “real problem” within Iowa.

Wilburn would be wise to realize President Donald J. Trump won Iowa not once, but twice. And he won it with more votes than any other presidential candidate in history. Ever. Including Barack Obama.

Perhaps Wilburn wasn’t watching the presidential campaigns of 2016 and 2020 too closely, but President Trump put immigration front-and-center in both of his campaigns.

The reality of this situation is the federal government was flying unaccompanied migrant minors across the country with no accountability to other governmental jurisdictions at the state or local level.

This is yet another example of how completely tone-deaf the Iowa Democrat Party is when it comes to what Iowa voters care about.
