Rural district Clear Creek Amana sent out a message yesterday to families letting them know — in all caps — that masks are required on buses and all other Clear Creek Amana transportation.
The district cites CDC guidance as the reason masks are required on school buses.
“Starting Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, any student without a mask or not properly wearing a mask will not be allowed to ride a school bus and parents will be responsible for taking their child(ren) to school and picking them up from school every day,” the email states.
The only exemptions listed to the CDC’s guidelines are for children under 2 years old and a person who cannot safely wear a mask due to a disability.
If someone does not wear a mask on a bus, the email adds that they may be subject to a civil penalty.
“Students will be continually reminded by posters on the buses, school announcements, bus drivers and staff,” said Interim Superintendent Joseph Brown. “We appreciate your cooperation in reminding your child(ren) to wear their masks on the bus to avoid losing their ability to ride the bus to and from school.”
